Mission
The Bakersfield Convention & Visitors Bureau is a non-profit, city managed, economic development organization responsible for strengthening Bakersfield's economy through the marketing, promotion, and selling of the city and region as a site for conventions, corporate meetings, trade shows, pleasure travel, group travel, cultural, sports and special events.
Funding
The CVB is funded annually by a small percentage of the city's transient occupancy tax. Through the CVB's marketing and sales, it is able to attract groups and leisure travelers to Bakersfield. The increased travel and tourism to Bakersfield results in an increase in transient occupancy tax and sales tax.
Structure
Established in 1967, the Bakersfield CVB, a 501(C)(6) corporation, is managed by a division of the City of Bakersfield Economic and Community Development Department and is overseen by a 13-member Board of Directors.
